Background to the Christchurch Call: Launched in 2019 by then New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and France President Emmanuel Macron following the Christchurch mosque attacks, the Christchurch Call bring together governments, tech companies, and civil society around a set of commitments to eliminate terrorist and violent extremist content online while protecting an open internet. The Foundation, established in 2024 and registered as a charity in New Zealand, provides permanent structure to support this multistakeholder community.
